If you just want an imprint push gently and if you want to cut all the way through push hard. Or if you want to make ham sandwiches you cut the shape all the way through the sandwich, remove the lid and then place the face all the way through the bread (lid) and place back on the sandwich so you can see the ham through the wholes. Great for biscuits, sandwiches, ham and cheese, but you can use them for just about anything.
